Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
An important political figure commented the incident made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
