PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
